Dia de los Muertos Celebration
On Tuesday November 1st, the Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies co-sponsored a Dia de los Muertos celebrationIn with the Educational Opportunity Program. The event consisted of face painting, crafting, mariachi and traditional Mexican food. In addition, the Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies contributed an altar of their own among others from different campus organizations and departments. Students considered this a very successful and enjoyable event because it really captured valued cultural traditions.

Shockwaves of the election are still being felt
I was wrong and I confess it. I had predicted a strong Clinton victory in the election, largely promoted by the Latino vote. The Latino vote, I wrote, would in effect be Clinton's firewall against the threat of a Trump presidency. It did not obviously work out this way.

The event will discuss Chicana/o Studies in relation to the presidential election results, career options, and include a panel of faculty followed by a question-and-answer session. Everyone is welcome and current majors are encouraged to attend! Food will be provided. This event is free.

We, too, are disheartened that even with the consolation that our home state of California strongly endorsed the needs and interests of a diverse population and even though Trump lost the popular vote, there were enough voting Americans willing to name him president elect.
