Message From the Chair

July 29, 2020

Message from the Chair:

Hello everyone. I hope that you are all doing well as possible during these unprecedented, unpredictable, and uncertain times. I wanted to take a moment and provide you all with some key information regarding Fall 2020.

In late June 2020, UCSB Chancellor Henry Yang notified the campus community that most classes in Fall 2020 will occur remotely; that is, on-line, either synchronously or asynchronously. Please check with your professor as to what format(s) they will be relying on. There will be no in-person instruction in the Chicana/o Studies Department in Fall 2020. We have not heard any news regarding Winter and Spring 2021, but as soon as any information is released regarding those two academic terms, we will let you all know on our website and via email.

Please contact me (ralpharmbruster@ucsb.edu) if you have any questions, comments, or concerns about Fall 2020 or anything related to the department. We are ultimately here for you—to do everything we can to empower all students, but especially Chicanx/Latinx students, who are often first-generation college students.

The Chicana/o Studies Department is committed to broad-based social change—that starts with students, providing crucial information that facilitates success and personal growth, extending into the classroom and community (world), working to challenge all forms of injustice and inequality.
