My name is Mara and I am one of the Peer Advisors for the Chicana/o Studies Department. I am currently a third year Chicana/o Studies Major with a double minor in Education and Sociocultural Linguistics. Some of my involvements include being the Retention Co-Chair for Student Initiated Recruitment and Retention Committee (SIRRC), a sister of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc., and being apart of the NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Programs for aspiring student affairs professionals. As a peer advisor some of my goals and aspirations are to create a warm and welcoming safe space where students can feel comfortable coming to for any questions or concerns they might have. I also hope to assist students, specifically underrepresented students, in navigating the complex university system to ensure that they are pointed to the resources and tools in order to succeed during their time at UCSB. In the near future I hope to earn a Master in Education with an emphasis in Student Affairs and Leadership Development.
