During the 2018-19 Academic Year, the Department of Chicana/o Studies will commemorate the 50thAnniversary of El Plan de Santa Barbara with a series of events. We invite the campus and community to join us all year long at colloquia, CHST Reads discussions and our two-day conference in the Winter Quarter.

The Department of Chicana/o Studies at UC Santa Barbara stands with Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.  While we find her allegations credible, the basis of our support is that what she calls for is eminently reasonable and sits at the foundation of democracy.  When a credible allegation is made, an investigation for further information—not to draw conclusions, but to provide credible additional information—is the only defensible course of action.  For this, the Federal Bureau of Investigations is the appropriate governmental body.  To prevent an FBI investigation is tantamount to the abuse of power, against which we must always stand.
